Vintage Silver-Plated Pedestal Bowl – England, Early 20th Century

A beautifully detailed English silverplate pedestal bowl made from EPNS with a delicate pierced pattern, a softly scalloped rim and stunning patina. It has that mix of charm and craftsmanship we love in early 20th-century British tableware. The openwork is especially nice here: intricate scrolling cutouts balanced by a solid star-shaped centre.

The surface shows natural patina from age, giving the piece a mellow, lived-in sheen rather than a mirror-bright shine. We have cleaned the bowl, but not polished it, as most prefer to preserve the original patina - the quiet warmth that only time can create. If you prefer it gleaming, it’s easy to polish, but we’ll let you decide.

Stamped EPNS, Made in England, with a maker’s mark that’s difficult to decipher - common for British silverplate of this era.

NOTE ON EPNS
EPNS (electroplated nickel silver) was the standard material for British silverplate from the late 1800s onward. It allowed manufacturers to create durable, beautifully detailed tableware with the look of silver at a more accessible price. Many pieces were hand-pierced or hand-finished, giving them subtle irregularities and character.
