Vintage Place Mats by Metsovaara - Finland, 1970s - Set of 8

A set of eight woven place mats by Metsovaara, made in Finland. These work beautifully in everyday life: layered on a wooden table, paired with stoneware or simple glass, or mixed into a larger, more eclectic setting. We love the warm mid-century palette -  chocolate brown, soft beige, and a clear orange - and graphic rhythm.

The fabric itself is sturdy and finely woven, with a firm weave and a lightly textured feel, closer to linen than soft cotton. The stripe placement varies subtly from one mat to the next - some lean more orange, others more brown - which gives the set a relaxed, lived-in feel. Calm and confident, but not loud.

This generous set is in excellent condition, either gently used or un-used. Easy to mix, and easy to live with - the kind of table textiles that quietly elevate a weekday breakfast as much as a long, relaxed dinner.
