A beautifully made piece, this round rattan tray features a tight zigzag weave and raised rim, suggesting it was made for practical daily use - either as a serving tray or for drying fruit or herbs. The style is common across many craft traditions, particularly in Southeast Asia, but also appears in Japanese bamboo work and Scandinavian folk handicrafts in slightly different forms. (We love simple everyday objects made for use, not show, which is exactly what makes them so appealing!)
This light and very sturdy piece was likely crafted in Southeast Asia mid-20th century. Beautiful patina! A timeless addition to any setting. Use it for serving, displaying or catching whatever needs catching.
