An exceptionally rare pair of mugs from the early years of Pentik’s 'Riekko' series, designed by Peter Winquist in 1975. Produced in Posio, Lapland, these mugs feature the same thick, speckled glaze found in classic 'Riekko' pieces — but instead of the usual soft, rounded form, this version has a faceted, geometric profile with a slightly flared lip and a more architectural feel. A rare variation with a touch of Bauhaus energy.

This size is also especially desirable — it's larger than typical cups from the era, hitting the sweet spot for a proper cup of coffee. In the 1970's, smaller sizes were more common, and larger mugs like these were made in smaller numbers. The result? A perfect combo of rarity, functionality, and sculptural presence. We’ve never come across this exact shape in this exact size before, and we’re honestly a bit obsessed.

NOTE ON THE DESIGNER – Peter Winquist (b. 1943) was one of Pentik’s first ceramic artists, known for his clean, practical forms and subtle Nordic palette. His designs helped shape the identity of Pentik during its formative years in the 1970s.

ABOUT PENTIK – Pentik is a beloved Finnish design brand known for its warm, earthy aesthetic and deep roots in Nordic pottery. Founded in 1971 by Anu Pentik, the company began as a small ceramics studio in Posio, Lapland, making it the northernmost ceramics factory in the world. We love the way early Pentik pieces capture the spirit of the 1970s with their raw textures, natural glazes, and sculptural forms inspired by the northern landscape. Long before “slow design” became a thing, Pentik was creating timeless pieces that combined craftsmanship and high-quality materials. Today, vintage Pentik ceramics are sought-after collectibles, treasured for their authenticity and quiet character.
