A vibrant and whimsical ceramic wall plaque designed by Finnish artist Annikki Hovisaari for Arabia in the 1960’s. This richly glazed artwork features a stylized bird in jewel-toned turquoise, mustard, forest green, and deep burgundy, outlined in fine relief. Geometric motifs and mid-century modern influences give the piece both folkloric charm and abstract sophistication.
Hovisaari, known for her expressive ceramic work and contributions to Finnish mid-century design, created a series of decorative plaques during her time at Arabia. Each piece was handmade and hand-glazed, making them subtly unique. This plaque is signed A. Hovisaari Arabia. A collectible gem that adds warmth, color and quirky flair to any modern interior.
In excellent vintage condition. Some light wear from age and use, but no visible chips or cracks. Like most big handmade pieces from back in the day, it has small quirks and irregularites that are part of the charm and vintage appeal.

NOTE ON THE ARTIST - Annikki Hovisaari (1918–2004) was a Finnish ceramic artist and designer best known for her work with Arabia, Finland’s iconic ceramics company. Active mainly in the 1950’s and 1960’s, she created richly glazed wall plaques and decorative pieces featuring stylized animals, birds, and folkloric motifs. Her work is celebrated for its vibrant color, expressive forms, and strong ties to Finnish craft tradition.
