Rare Blue Studio Vase by Mirjam Stäuber - Finland, 1935
Rare Blue Studio Vase by Mirjam Stäuber - Finland, 1935
Couldn't load pickup availability
A rare early studio vase by Mirjam Stäuber, thrown in 1935 and finished in a luminous, layered blue glaze that immediately draws the eye. The glaze moves subtly across the surface, with gentle tonal shifts, visible brushwork, and natural variation from the firing. Small glaze irregularities and a dark firing mark are present, typical of the era and the studio process.
Mirjam Stäuber’s early work belongs to the studio ceramics tradition, with a clear focus on form, glaze, and material. This vase predates the more standardised post-war period and reflects an individual, hands-on way of working, shaped through throwing, glazing, and firing.
Beautiful on its own as a sculptural object, or paired with a single stem. A strong yet calm presence for a shelf, sideboard, or table - and a particularly compelling find for anyone drawn to early Finnish ceramics, rich blue glazes, and genuinely rare studio work.

NOTE ON THE DESIGNER
Mirjam Stäuber (1912–1969) was a Finnish ceramic artist whose work was sold during her lifetime through Stockmann and specialist craft shops in Helsinki. Stäuber trained at Ateneum and later developed her ceramic practice at the Kyyrölä pottery workshop on the Karelian Isthmus, where she became a skilled thrower and worked alongside other artists of the period. She had a strong, hands-on relationship with her materials - at times digging local red clay herself in Tenhola. Today, her work is increasingly recognised for its focus on material, surface, and place. Early signed pieces from the 1930s are particularly scarce, making works like this vase important examples of Finnish studio ceramics before the post-war period.
