Two beautifully shaped, wheel-thrown pitchers in speckled stoneware — short, round, and topped with cork stoppers. The glaze is a warm taupe-brown with lots of variation and depth, softening around the neck and pooling slightly at the base. The form is simple but playful: a generous spout, a sculpted handle, and a satisfying little weight in the hand.
These unsigned pieces were likely made in France during the 1970s or early 1980s, when studio pottery was having a quiet renaissance in rural workshops across the country. The cork stoppers and scale suggest they were intended for serving oil, vinegar, or cream — but they’re just as lovely as sculptural details on a shelf or table.
A perfectly matched pair with loads of charm — not easy to come by in this shape and condition.
