NOTE ON THE ARTIST – Väinö Rouvinen (b. 1932) is a Finnish graphic artist best known for his intimate etchings and aquatints. He studied under Aukusti Tuhka at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and was a founding member of the artist collective Tutka. In the 1960's, his work leaned toward abstraction and informalism before evolving into more lyrical and surreal motifs in later decades. Rouvinen was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal in 1987, one of the highest honours in Finnish arts.
