A hand-blown glass object from Oiva Toikka’s Iglu series, made at Nuutajärvi in the 1970s. Part of Toikka’s experimental art glass work from the decade, Iglu explores bubble and drifted glass techniques. Each piece was hand-shaped and individually finished, so no two are identical.
The softly geometric form shows Toikka’s interest in glass as a material: fluid, imperfect, and full of variation. A compact example of Finnish glass artistry from one of the country’s most inventive designers.

NOTE ON THE DESIGNER
Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was one of Finland’s leading glass artists, known for his imaginative approach to form and material. At Nuutajärvi, he created a wide range of art glass and series production, often blurring the line between design and sculpture. The Iglu series reflects his experimental 1970s period — a hands-on exploration of technique and expression.
