Mid-Century Deep Plates by Okki Laine for Kupittaan Savi - Set of 4

A bold set of four deep plates from Kupittaan Savi, hand-painted in a classic Orvokki 'Okki' Laine colour combo that still feels fresh and contemporary. Deep brown glaze, vivid orange and cobalt blue come together in wide-rimmed forms that are generous in both size and personality. Each plate is signed with the initials of both the designer and decorator on the base.

Made during Kupittaan Savi’s most design-forward period in the 1950’s–60’s, these pieces reflect the more modern side of Kupittaan Savi’s studio production: expressive, practical, and full of character. A fine example of Finnish modernist tableware that combines strong form with expressive detail.

These are hand-made, unique plates — you can see and feel the process. Like many pieces by Kupittaan Savi, these plates bear marks of studio production: slight differences in size and tone, irregularities in shape and glaze, a certain ruggedness to the base, tiny glaze skips and an overall organic feel. These aren't flaws, just part of the honest charm of Finnish mid-century ceramics. That said, this particular set is exceptionally well-matched — all plates are the same size and tone, and they stack beautifully. A perfect set. And the perfect size for pastas, soups, or anything saucy.
