A warm-toned vintage teak figurine in the shape of a curled-up animal — possibly a fox, bear, or a modernist-approved mystery critter that only exists in teak. The rounded, abstract form is smooth to the touch and subtly asymmetrical, with tiny carved ears and a soft expression that reveal its animal nature only on second glance. A clever detail: it rocks when nudged, adding a playful kinetic feel.
Likely carved in Scandinavia in the 1960's–70's, this piece is a lovely example of modernist Nordic woodcraft, where character is distilled into essential lines and organic shape. Mid-century Scandinavian woodcarvings often embraced abstraction, allowing animals to emerge from simplified forms. This piece fits right in — elegant, ambiguous, and full of quiet charm.
