Rhythmic and quietly refined — this hand-glazed stoneware piece by Annikki Hovisaari is from the elusive Maya art series by Arabia. The surface features Hovisaari’s signature repeating pattern, rendered here in earthy browns and mossy greens with a slightly translucent, almost atmospheric depth.
Annikki Hovisaari was part of Arabia’s art department and known for her textured, sculptural forms. The Maya series was one of her more experimental lines — made in small numbers, often with layered glazes and geometric rhythm. Quietly collectible, and hard to come by.
Maya pieces really don’t show up often — and this one’s got presence. Crafted in the 1970s and marked on the base, it’s a small but bold piece from Arabia’s art ceramic line. The hypnotic glaze pattern, earthy tones, and smooth cylindrical form make it easy to style. Use it for brushes, blooms, or nothing at all — it looks good doing very little.
