A rare find in this size – this beautiful vintage basket is handwoven from natural birch bark with a bold, sculptural shape and thick arched handle. The diagonal weave gives it extra strength and a satisfying visual rhythm, while the warm, organic tones of the bark show off decades of gentle patina.
At nearly 50 cm tall, this is one of the largest traditional birch bark baskets we’ve come across. Use it for firewood, textiles, toys, or even as a very impressive picnic basket. Timeless, durable, and quietly magnificent.

NOTE ON BIRCH BARK CRAFT - Birch bark (tuohi in Finnish) has been used for centuries in Nordic folk tradition for everything from shoes and boxes to roof tiles and baskets. Lightweight yet incredibly strong, it’s a fully biodegradable, renewable material that softens beautifully with age and use. Today, surviving large-scale pieces like this are increasingly rare and prized for their craftsmanship and character.
