This generous, hand-thrown mug has everything we want from a piece of studio pottery: a satisfying shape, balanced weight, and an expressive glaze that feels warm and grounded. Finished in a matte, off-white glaze with soft speckling and rust-brown decoration, the surface has a quietly graphic presence.
Studio pottery mugs became a defining feature of Nordic and European craft ceramics in the postwar decades, valued for their function as well as their individuality. Each one was shaped and decorated by hand — making even familiar forms into personal, expressive objects built to be used and loved daily.
Signed with a faint “F” at the base, the mug is clearly the work of a skilled ceramicist. Likely made in Finland in the late 20th century, it fits right into the Nordic tradition of everyday objects with soul. Comfortable in the hand, generously sized, perfect for coffee or whatever keeps you going. Would also make a lovely holder for pens, kitchen utensils or paint brushes.
