A beautifully handwoven wool flatweave from the Kordestan region of Iran, made between 1960’s–80’s using traditional jajim weaving techniques. Woven in soft vertical stripes of natural undyed tones — camel, chestnut, sand and oat —this vintage piece reflects the grounded palette and organic texture we love in old Kurdish textiles. It’s quietly graphic, raw yet refined and large enough to transform a whole space.
The balance between precision and irregularity in the weaving is typical of mid-20th century tribal production, especially in rural Kordestan. It’s these slight variations — the human touch — that give it presence and character. A German-language tag on the reverse (“Garantiert Handgeknüpft”) suggests the rug was imported into Europe during the active Persian rug trade of the 1950's–80's, adding another layer to its story.
At 350 x 243 cm, this is an exceptionally rare find — most jajim-style flatweaves are significantly smaller, making this oversized version kind of a dream piece. The wool is clean, the weave is intact, and the overall condition is unusually well-kept for a mid-century textile. While it can absolutely be used as a floor rug, the weave is lighter than typical pile rugs — more like a heavyweight textile than a stiff carpet — so we recommend a rug pad if placing it on smooth floors. It also works beautifully draped over a bed or sofa, or hung on a wall as a large-scale textile piece. A timeless one-of-a-kind that will hold its value and presence for years.

ABOUT JAJIM WEAVING – Jajim is a traditional flatweave technique used across parts of Iran, Turkey, and the Caucasus, especially in Kurdish and tribal weaving cultures. Jajims are typically woven in narrow bands and sewn together, resulting in long vertical stripes and a distinctive, almost architectural rhythm. Softer and more flexible than kelims, they’ve long been used as multipurpose household textiles — both practical and beautiful. Larger vintage pieces in this condition are particularly rare and collectible.
