Heavy amber glass vase from Kumela, designed by Kaj Blomqvist in the 1970s. The tall cylindrical form contrasts with rough, organic glass growths that seem to rise straight out of the molten surface - an unmistakable Blomqvist touch that captures both nature and experiment in one piece.

Named Petäjä (Finnish for “pine”), this design plays with the textures of bark and resin: smooth and vertical at first glance, but full of wild, frozen movement when seen up close. Each example was hand-finished, making no two exactly alike.

A collector’s favourite from the Finnish modern glass era, and a stunning accent in any setting.

NOTE ON THE DESIGNER
Kaj Blomqvist (1933–2019) was one of Finland’s most expressive glass designers. Working for Kumela, he brought a strong sense of form and nature into his designs, often experimenting with layered textures and molten detailing that blurred the line between controlled design and organic chance.

CONDITION & DETAILS

All items we sell are pre-loved. Most are vintage, which means they’ve been used and have lived through time.

Each piece is sold in its current condition, with signs of age or use such as patina, wear, fading, or small irregularities. Many vintage items also carry production marks from the manufacturing methods of their time. These traces are part of what makes each piece what it is, and add to its character over time.

We photograph and describe everything as clearly as we can, so you know what you’re getting. Please take a moment to review the photos and description before ordering. If anything feels unclear, just reach out - we’re happy to help.
