A one-of-a-kind ceramic dish with a richly layered surface and a stunning glaze that shifts between mossy green, olive, deep brown, and charcoal. The form is simple and open with a slightly rough, uneven rim and firing marks. The clay body remains visible at the edge, giving the piece an organic feel. The underside is left dark and unglazed, leaving the material visible.
Designed and hand-signed by Paul Envalds, this dish reflects his approach to ceramics during his independent studio years in Seutula. Trained at the Arabia Art Department and later working on his own, Envalds is known for moving away from conventional forms and working with complex, often unpredictable glaze surfaces. His work sits firmly in the Finnish studio ceramics tradition, with an emphasis on form, surface and the making process rather than decoration.
This piece works well both as a ceramic object and in light everyday use - for fruit, small items, or simple serving. Pairs beautifully with natural materials and other studio ceramics, and makes a beautiful gift for anyone drawn to Nordic ceramics with texture.
