Brass & Iron Candelabra by Gunnar Ander for Ystad-Metall - Sweden, 1950s

A classic seven-arm candelabra by Swedish designer Gunnar Ander, made by Ystad-Metall during the height of Scandinavian mid-century metalwork. The form is unmistakably his: slender black iron arms that curve out with an easy rhythm, topped with tapered brass candle cups that bring warmth and contrast.

This piece has a strong graphic presence - airy but grounded, decorative without being fussy. The brass shows light wear and patina from age, which fits the piece well and adds that soft, lived-in glow vintage Ystad-Metall is loved for. Overall, the condition is very good and the structure is solid.

It works beautifully as a centrepiece on a dining table, sideboard or windowsill. We like it both with simple white candles for a clean Nordic look, or with darker tones for moodier evenings.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Gunnar Ander (1908–1976) was one of Ystad-Metall’s defining designers, known for translating Scandinavian modernism into expressive everyday objects. His candle holders often combine clean geometries with gentle curves, giving them a warm, graphic presence that still feels fresh decades later. Today, his work is widely collected for its easy elegance and timeless character.
